Get Started with Amazon Brand Registry
To get your brand registered and live on Amazon with a GS1-verified UPC, follow these step-by-step instructions. This process involves two major parts: Setting up a GS1 UPC Barcode and Registering your Brand on Amazon through Amazon Brand Registry, followed by listing your products.
✅ PART 1: **Get a GS1 UPC Barcode**
Amazon requires you to use official GS1-registered UPCs (GTINs), not third-party resellers.
Step 1: Go to GS1 Website
- USA: https://www.gs1us.org
- International: Find GS1 for your country at https://www.gs1.org/contact
Step 2: Create a GS1 Account
- Register as a new company.
- Provide your legal business name and contact information.
Step 3: Apply for a GS1 Company Prefix
Choose based on how many unique products (SKUs) you will have:

- GS1 will provide you with a unique Company Prefix.
- You’ll generate a UPC/GTIN for each product.
- Use GS1’s Data Hub to create product entries and get barcodes.
✅ PART 2: **Register Your Brand with Amazon Brand Registry**
This helps protect your brand and allows enhanced content (A+ content, Brand Analytics, etc.).
Prerequisites:
- An active registered trademark in the country where you want to enroll (e.g. USPTO in the U.S.).
- GS1-verified UPCs or GTINs.
- Amazon Seller Central account.
Step 1: Register Your Trademark
If you don’t have a trademark yet:
- Start the process at https://www.uspto.gov (for U.S.).
- Use a word mark or logo, and make sure it matches your product packaging and Amazon brand name.
- Optionally, use Amazon’s IP Accelerator (faster access to Brand Registry before trademark registration is complete).
Step 2: Create a Seller Central Account
- Go to https://sellercentral.amazon.com
- Register for a Professional account (monthly fee: ~$39.99).
Step 3: Enroll in Amazon Brand Registry
Click Enroll now.
Provide:
- Your trademark registration or application number.
- Your brand name, images of logos, and product packaging that shows the brand name.
- A list of product categories you sell in.
Step 4: Verification Process
- Amazon may contact the trademark owner (use your registered email from the USPTO side).
- You’ll receive a verification code to input in the Brand Registry portal.

Step 1: Log in to Seller Central
Step 2: Add Products Using GS1 UPCs
Navigate to Inventory > Add a Product
Choose “I’m adding a product not sold on Amazon”
Enter product details, including:
- Product ID: Enter your GS1 UPC/GTIN
- Product Name, Brand, and Manufacturer
Upload high-quality images.
Step 3: Assign Brand
- When you’re in Brand Registry, Amazon allows you to list your brand name on listings.
- Brand name must match what’s on file with Amazon Brand Registry.
Step 4: Optimize your Listing
- Fill in all product fields: title, bullet points, description, keywords.
- Upload A+ Content under Brand Registry > A+ Content Manager for enhanced product pages.
Step 5: Go Live
- After Amazon validates your listing and UPC, your product will go live.
- Approval takes several hours up to 24–48 hours.
