Transit Media

A quick test of publishing with Alto. Taking an old note shared with my girlfriend about the movies and books I read on my flight home for Christmas.

Wolfwalkers

The second film by Cartoon Saloon, the fine folks behind The Secret of Kells moving story of female friendship and Irish lore. I found the art style to be strangely inconsistent, not bad but it'll alternate between these great painterly frames and motion, (they even play with aspect rations and comic style paneling) then a man will come into frame and look like a Disney flash animation Al la Gravity Falls. It's weird.

It's wild that they modelled the mom after Divine.

Project Silence A Korean Alien Invasion movie that asks the question, what if man's best friend..... wasn't. That's right, we got a movie with evil dogs. Tragically, or thankfully depending on your taste, bloodless and every character is allowed 2 (two) personality traits. I think this is the 3rd Korean movie I've seen that has Korean military experiments gone wrong and plaque the population on a bridge, so don't know why these movies are escaping containment.

Last Mile Days before Black Friday, hot new products start exploding when delivered to people's home. A race to find out how and why. I like the word document transitions and there's a fun Marie Kondo joke and a cute changing scene, but the engine of the film is "line must go up and products must be shipped at all costs" which, sits badly.

Heretic A reverse home invasion film about faith, control, and affirmations, with our favourite gynoid Sophie Thatcher. A lot of tense tense conversations, I'm curious if someone could adapt it to be a play. Loved the dollhouse to living room shot.

Run For Money The Movie: Toyko Mission 5 friends who have fallen out reconcile during an intense game show.

All About Suomi An ensemble comedy where a beautiful woman is kidnapped and her multiple ex-husbands are tasked with bringing her back. Oh the foolishness of men! Oh the cleverness of women! Great blocking and framing, with dimensions to every shot. It ends with a stage musical number promoting Helsinki of all things.

Presence Soderburg's new film, a haunted house from the POV of the house. Very stylish. I feel like a double feature with Paranormal Activity, Waiting for the Light to Change, Manic or that new one angle Tom Hanks movie would be good. Had playback issues, couldn't finish :(

#Books Gunpowder Gods A Byzantine/Ottoman inspired Grimdark fantasy, all about cleansing the unbelieving. It's a little too much telly and not enough showy, which considering one POV character has woman, children, and babies killed in a conquest of city, might not be a bad thing. Cherry flavored hashih is like an unofficial side character.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Airport Find > Borrow I'd need to look into it later, but this reads like a Patreon funded web progression novel that finally got published. What if everyone on Earth got teleported into a Mega Dungeon Reality show, like Amazing Race or Survivor. A little to white nerd edgy pop-culture referency for my taste, there is a foot fetish running gag. But hey, there's a cat that shoots magic missile out of her eyes.

Edit: Yeap. Self-published on Royal Road, first six books acquired by Ace Books...... It has a television adaptation coming?!?! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Crawler_Carl

Highly Sensitive Person

A small quote that I found interesting. Poor babies.

Daniel Stern in his charming book Diary of a Baby. A tremendous amount of recent research on infancy informs Joey’s diary. For example, it is now thought that infants cannot separate inner from outer stimulation or sort out the different senses or the present from a remembered experience that has just happened. Nor do they have a sense of themselves as the one who is experiencing it all, the one to whom it is happening.Given all of the above, Stern found that weather is a good analogy for an infant’s experience. Things just happen, varying mostly in intensity. Intensity is all that disturbs, by creating a storm of overarousal. HSPs take note: Overarousal is the first and most basic distressing experience of life; our first lessons about overarousal begin at birth.
